The Lord has surely been good to me. by Brother Wallace French I was at a very low point in my life when I thought my life was over. I had been very ill for a couple of weeks. My wife had begged me to go to the doctor, but I kept putting her off thinking I would get better any day. I kept telling her I just had a bug and it would go away soon. During this time my son, who was only 34 years old, had a stroke. Everyone, including myself, was so concerned about him and didn't pay much attention to my illness. My wife followed our son to another hospital much further away. When she returned, I was much worse. She wanted to take me to the hospital right away! I put her off again, telling her I would go tomorrow. Well, I have no memory of the next day. I was told my wife couldn't get me out of bed. She gave me a bath and called the rescue squad. I spent most of that day in the ER. Finally, they sent me to the Critical Care Unit. The next morning, I lost conciseness and was put on life support. At one time, they had to resitate my heart with the shock paddles. I had a bad infection all over my body. The infection was so bad, I was put in isolation. My family and friends had to wear a gown, gloves and a mask to come in my room. I didn't even know that they were there. I showed no signs of brain activity on the machines. The doctor had to operate on my artificial knee to drain infection. He didn't even anestize me because he said that I was totally unresponsive to anything! For eight days, I lay there on life support. The doctors weren't giving my family any hope of making it. I had a fever that was between 103 and 105. My family, friends, brothers and sisters in the Lord never gave up. They kept praying for my recovery. On the fifth day, my doctor said that he saw some brain activity. On the ninth day, I woke up! The doctors were astonished! They could hardly believe their eyes! My wife had been by my side all of these days, she believed that the Lord was not through with me yet. She held on by faith, that I would make it. The Lord woke me up. I spent the next 48 days in the hospital. The Lord was and still is giving me strength every day. I know it was the prayers of everyone that brought me back to this side of eternity. My work here is not finished. When it is, I will go home to glory. For now, I thank God for keeping my son. He is doing well and expected to make a full recovery. I thank everyone for there prayers. Mostly, I thank God for giving me an opportunity to work for him a little while longer. Bro Wallace French., Bland Virginia. Ed Note. Wallace's wife, Lucy, stood by his side and through his long recovery. He is now back in his Church, and doing quite well. Her devotion to his illness was a testimony of her love for Wallace and the Lord. She cared for him, bathed him, and fed him each day in his ordeal. Lucy thanks the Lord for keeping her husband. She said that he is so much different now. He is much more patient with the children and grandchildren. He takes time and shares the Lord with friends and family. He is a wonderful companion. Just hold on to the Lord.
