The tongue, Slippery when wet.

BY TONI SORTOR & PAMELA MCQUADE

Proverbs 20:19 He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips.

Have you noticed that the more you talk, the greater the chance that you'll goof things up? You say the wrong thing to the wrong person, including some things you never meant to say at all. We often do this when we're under pressure of some kind. To avoid seeming stuck up, we say the first thing that comes to our mind, only to hear ourselves talking about some deep, dark secret we weren't supposed to know about.

To fit in with the crowd, we often say things we know are untrue or
improper. Our tongues are in overdrive, but our brains are on hold.
Fear does this to us - fear of being left out, of being thought stupid.
We feel that if we talk fast enough, others will overlook our faults and be lulled into acceptance by our silver tongues, so we let the words tumble out, only to find we've sabotaged ourselves.

The next time you feel pressured to blurt out a confidence, excuse
yourself for a minute until the temptation passes. Two minutes of
silence are worth far more than one minute of foolishness.

Psa 19:14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.
