If the Lord Will...

Mini Sermon by Lynne Conley

SCRIPTURE READING: James 4:15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this,
or that.
(KJV)

Life is uncertain. We make our plans and dream our dreams, but they may not be the same plans that God has for us. And being a Christian is no guarantee that all will go as you want or that you will live to be 85!

Many couples plan as if they know for certain that all will work out. And when it doesn't, they are crushed. Using the phrase in our planning, " If it is the Lord's will," does not reflect a pessimistic fatalism. Instead, it recognizes the fact that life is uncertain and God is the only One who knows the future. None of us knows for certain what will happen tomorrow. You may lose your job tomorrow. One of you may be crippled or killed in an auto accident. Your plans for that extensive vacation to another country may be canceled because of a revolution there. That's the life and times in which we live.

So what is James saying to you as a couple? First, include God in all of your planning. Not only include Him, put Him first. Ask for His guidance.

Second, realize that all you have and are came from Him. He is the one to receive credit for what you do.

Third, if you are blessed with wealth, use it for the glory of God. Now, it's time to discuss. How can today's meditation change your life and perspective at the present time?
BY H. NORMAN WRIGHT

This is one of many reasons why we should totally trust God. Because Life is uncertain. We really don't know what tomorrow holds. Yes! we should still make plans but we must also realize that those plans may be changed. Especially if we have not talked to God about the plans we have made.

Everyday we should seek God's will. Sometimes we get into a daily routine of going to work, shopping, taking the children to school. And since these are things we do everyday, we don't stop to think that maybe God wants to change our routine. Yes, we still have to go to work. We still have to take our children to school, but have you ever thought that maybe God wants to give us a new direction.

For instance: In taking your children to school, maybe God wants you to take a different route. On the route you normally take, there could be a terrible car accident. But if you are hustling and bustling out there without praying and seeking God, you may just wind up in the middle of that car accident. Or maybe if you go another direction, you may run into someone you haven't seen in a long time, and maybe God wants you to
witness to them. See here we are with our own agenda again.

We must realize our agenda is subject to change. We should consult God about every plan and decision we make. In fact we need to make sure He okays all the decisions that we make. We need His guidance. We have Jesus on the inside. He is the one in control. It is no longer, what I want to do but, what does He want to do through me. That's why before we start our day, we need to talk to Him. I want to know God's will and I want to do God's will. How about you?

So before you start your day, ask God to give you guidance. To lead you where He wants you to Go. Not my will, but your will be done in my life. I will go where ever you want me to, just give me directions. Let's put God first in all things. We will soon see how much better our lives will be.
