Grace & Peace

A Mini-Sermon by Bro. C. Emerson Strain

Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, II Peter 1:2

If you were to measure your growth in your Christian walk, this would be the measuring stick. Grace and Peace.

Grace is how you treat others.

Peace is how your are inside.

How gracious are you to others? Are you able to "get somebody told" if you have a dissagreement with them. Television has all kinds of "reality shows" that show people putting down others and coming out the "winner". But the Bible shows a clearer way to winning.

The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility. Prov 15:33

Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility. Prov 18:12

When we are gracious to someone, we are honouring them and showing respect to them. To be gracious to someone is to humble ourselves and show respect to another person.

For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. Rom 12:3

Grace is also unmerited favor. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Rom 5:8

When we show kindness and mercy to someone, that is grace.

Peace is what we are on the inside. You can "fake" grace to someone, but you might not have any peace inside. That's why grace and peace go together. You cannot have one without the other. Peace is the result of having Grace toward others. Think about it!

Do you want peace in your life? Show grace toward others.

Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. II Pet 3:14

Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
II Pet 3:17-18
