With all thy getting . . . . . get understanding. Proverbs 4:7
Mini sermon on getting by C. Emerson Strain.
With so much to get in this world today, what do you want? You can get it in a catalog, on line, in line, or delivered in a brown truck. But is it what you will want?
I think of a woman in the Bible who had an issue of blood for twelve years. What would she want? What could make her life better? Most certainly getting her body healed, but I think she sought more.
And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years, and had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse, when she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. Mark 5:25-27
What would you ask for? I am sure the embarrassment was too much. Everyone knew her condition, every doctor knew, after twelve years, everyone in town probably knew her dilemma.
When everyone knows the battle or difficulty that your are going through, are your prayers just for God to make everything look right again? Are your prayers just for God to turn the circumstance around? Or are your prayers for you to draw closer to Jesus? Really know Him for who He is.
You can really know the Lord when you turn to him and trust him in your trials, much better than when everything is going good.
When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. Mark 5:27
For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. Mark 5:28
Now notice that she didn't ask for healing, she just asked to be made "whole". You could have your body perfect, but what would it profit you if your soul wasn't touched first and foremost?
Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. 3 John 1:2
She was seeking something more that just her body getting healed, she wanted her person to feel whole again. She saw Jesus as the one who knew her heart's desire, He knew her every need, He could make her whole again!
Don't just come to Jesus for a blessing. Don't just come to Jesus for a "feel good" experience. Come to Jesus for who he is.
And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague. Mark 5:29
And Jesus, knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes? Mark 5:30
Virtue went out of Jesus. She saw Jesus as being full of virtue and that is what she received. Even the disciples didn't see it.
And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? Mark 5:31
And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing. Mark 5:32
But the woman fearing and trembling knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth. Mark 5:33
True prayer is being truthful to God in prayer. It is so wonderful to open your heart to Jesus with no reservations. Holding nothing back.
Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart. Psalms 119:2
And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague. Mark: 34
In all your getting, make sure you get God. Not just his benefits, but get him in your heart.
Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. Prov 4:7
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Mat 6:33
