Just Common Salvation?

A Mini-Sermon by Bro. C. Emerson Strain

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Romans 12:1-2

A very powerful scripture to call each of us to serve the Lord with a true dedication. Many people will attend Church serveral times a year and feel that they are Christians. I don't doubt their profession of faith. But I see a "high calling" or a perfect will of God that is above a good will of God, or an acceptable will of God. It was stated in the book of Jude this way.

Jude 3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation. . .

See, Jude was talking about a common salvation. Is your walk with God a common one? You know, maybe go to Church once or twice a month, pray just a little, put a buck in the offering plate, etc. Do you have a "common salvation"? Here is what Jude went on to say.

Jude 3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

Don't let your walk with God become "Common". Peter wasn't a common man after he made his commitment follow Jesus. He saw Jesus walking on the water, so he asked.

Matt 14:28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.
Matt 14:29 And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.

Not a common thing to do, but Peter did it anyway. None of the others in the boat walked on the water. But they had one thing in common, they were all in the same boat. Are you in the same boat, do you have all things in common in your Church. Do you have a common salvation?

Stretch your faith out, let this comming year be a year that you want the Lord to do great things for you and through you. Contend for the faith once delivered to the saints.
